QB Lynch down to third string

-

Quarterback Paxton Lynch inched closer to full-blown bust status when he was demoted to third string Monday after an ineffective performance in the Broncos’ preseason opener Saturday against the Vikings.

Lynch, whom the Broncos moved up to draft in the first round in 2016, was beaten out by seventh-rounder Trevor Siemian each of the last two summers and now has fallen behind seventh-rounder Chad Kelly in the battle to back up starter Case Keenum.

Lynch was 6-for-11 for 24 yards with an interception against the Vikings. Kelly was 14-for-21 for 177 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Former girlfriend sues RB McCoy

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy’s ex-girlfriend is suing him for failing to protect her after she was bloodied, beaten and had $133,000 worth of jewelry stolen during a home invasion last month.

In a lawsuit filed in Fulton County, Georgia, Delicia Cordon accused McCoy — whom she didn’t blame for playing a role in the home invasion — of breaching his duty to protect her because he owned the home.

Cordon’s face was bloodied during the incident, which occurred early July 10.

RB Barkley has ‘mild strain’ in left leg

The Giants said rookie running back Saquan Barkley suffered ‘‘a mild strain’’ in his left leg during practice, and it wasn’t immediately known whether he would play in their preseason game Friday against the Lions.

Barkley, whom the Giants selected No. 2 overall, caught a swing pass out of the backfield and was injured either stretching to make the catch or running down the sideline after the catch.

Seahawks-Raiders moved to Wembley

The Seahawks-Raiders game scheduled for Oct. 14 at a new stadium in London instead will be played across town at Wembley Stadium because the new facility won’t be ready in time. The move means Wembley will host NFL games three weekends in a row.
