Jansen (heart) eyes fast return

-

Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen said he hopes doctors will clear him to return from a stint on the disabled list with a heart ailment sometime next week.

Jansen threw about 20 pitches during a bullpen session Friday, continuing his light workload after going on the DL last week with an irregular heartbeat. Jansen, who initially was estimated to miss four to six weeks, said he feels good and is hopeful doctors will clear him to return to action when they meet Monday.

Jansen, 30, said this week it’s likely he’ll need another ablation on his heart after the season. He had a similar operation in 2012.

Suspensions appealed

Marlins right-hander Jose Urena appealed the six-game suspension he received Thursday from Major League Baseball for intentionally hitting Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. with a pitch in the first inning Wednesday.

♦ The Dodgers said outfielder Yasiel Puig will appeal the two-game suspension he received Thursday from MLB for taking a swing at Giants catcher Nick Hundley and inciting a benches-clearing incident in the seventh inning Tuesday.

On the field

Right fielder Eric Thames left the visiting Brewers’ game against the Cardinals with a sore left knee in the third inning after colliding with center fielder Lorenzo Cain while making a catch in the first. The Cardinals won 5-2 for their ninth victory in their last 10 games.

♦ Aaron Nola (14-3) improved to 9-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 12 starts this season at Citizens Bank Park, leading the Phillies to a 4-2 victory against the Mets. Nola allowed one run and three hits and struck out 11 in seven innings.

♦ The Rockies ended a franchise-record 25-game streak of scoring six runs or fewer with an 11-5 victory against the host Braves. The Rockies are 28-14 since June 28, the best record in the National League during that span.
