Report on Meyer to come next week
Ohio State said fact-finders investigating football coach Urban Meyer’s handling of domesticabuse allegations against a former assistant will deliver a report to university leaders sometime next week.
The school said Friday that the investigation will wrap up Sunday, as planned, and that a report will be delivered to the six-person group coordinating the probe. The report then will be shared with trustees in an executive meeting next week.
Meyer has been on paid leave since Aug. 1, when Ohio State began investigating his handling of 2015 abuse allegations leveled by the ex-wife of former receivers coach Zach Smith. Smith was dismissed July 23 after Courtney Smith was granted an order of protection.
Report: Bills QB McCarron breaks collarbone
The Buffalo News reported Bills quarterback AJ McCarron suffered a hairline fracture to his right collarbone when he was hit hard from behind and sacked in the second quarter of the team’s 19-17 preseason victory against the host Browns.
McCarron is in a battle with Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen for the Bills’ starting job. He signed a two-year, $10 million deal with them as a free agent in March after spending four seasons as a backup with the Bengals.
♦ Free-agent receiver Dez Bryant concluded his visit with the Browns without agreeing to a contract, but sources said conversations between the parties will continue. Bryant, a three-time Pro Bowl selection during his eight seasons with the Cowboys, and his agent met with Browns officials Thursday and into Friday but couldn’t agree to a deal.
♦ Multiple outlets reported Patriots rookie offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn will miss the entire season with a torn left Achilles tendon suffered in a preseason game Thursday against the Eagles. Wynn, who was carted off the field with what initially was thought to be a sprained ankle, was the Patriots’ first-round pick in April.
♦ The Seahawks signed veteran linebacker Erik Walden and terminated the contract of defensive end Marcus Smith, who had missed the last few days of practice because of a personal matter.
