Illi­nois, Ari­zona hoops will meet

Illi­nois signed a two-year con­tract with Ari­zona for a men’s bas­ket­ball home-and-home series. The Illini will play in Tuc­son on Nov. 10, 2019, and the Wild­cats will visit Cham­paign on Dec. 12, 2020. It will be Illi­nois’ first non­con­fer­ence home-and-home with a Power Five pro­gram since Van­der­bilt in 2008-09.

♦ The NHL is crit­i­ciz­ing an ar­bi­tra­tor’s de­ci­sion to re­duce the sus­pen­sion of Preda­tors for­ward Austin Wat­son, who pleaded no con­test in July to do­mes­tic as­sault. Wat­son got a 27-game sus­pen­sion from NHL com­mis­sioner Gary Bettman last month. But it was an­nounced Thurs­day that ar­bi­tra­tor Shyam Das re­duced it to 18 games. The NHL doesn’t have a writ­ten do­mes­tic-vi­o­lence pol­icy.

♦ For­ward Jus­tise Winslow agreed to a three-year, $39 mil­lion ex­ten­sion with Heat. His num­bers im­proved last sea­son af­ter the Heat swung a Fe­bru­ary trade to bring back Dwyane Wade.
