Illinois, Arizona hoops will meet
Illinois signed a two-year contract with Arizona for a men’s basketball home-and-home series. The Illini will play in Tucson on Nov. 10, 2019, and the Wildcats will visit Champaign on Dec. 12, 2020. It will be Illinois’ first nonconference home-and-home with a Power Five program since Vanderbilt in 2008-09.
♦ The NHL is criticizing an arbitrator’s decision to reduce the suspension of Predators forward Austin Watson, who pleaded no contest in July to domestic assault. Watson got a 27-game suspension from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman last month. But it was announced Thursday that arbitrator Shyam Das reduced it to 18 games. The NHL doesn’t have a written domestic-violence policy.
♦ Forward Justise Winslow agreed to a three-year, $39 million extension with Heat. His numbers improved last season after the Heat swung a February trade to bring back Dwyane Wade.
