Bills may have to start QB Peterman vs. Bears

-

Quarterback Derek Anderson has been diagnosed with a concussion, leaving open the possibility of the Bills starting Nathan Peterman against the Bears this weekend. Coach Sean McDermott wouldn’t rule out Anderson being cleared to play.

Anderson was hurt Sunday when he was sacked in the final minutes of a 25-6 loss to the Patriots. He was making his second start since rookie Josh Allen sprained his elbow on his right throwing arm in a 20-13 loss at Houston.

McDermott has already ruled out Allen from playing, and the Bills would have little choice but to turn to Peterman, who lost the starting job after faltering badly in the first half of a season-opening 47-3 loss to the Ravens. Peterman threw two interceptions in that game and then threw two more against the Texans, including one returned for the decisive touchdown in the final two minutes.

McDermott also announced that free-agent receiver Terrelle Pryor is returning to Buffalo a day after visiting with the team, but no deal has been finalized yet.

Giants backup QB arrested

Giants rookie backup quarterback Kyle Lauletta was arrested on motor-vehicle and related disorderly persons offenses while driving near a road construction site on his way to practice.

Weehawken, New Jersey, police said the 22-year-old Lauletta was stopped Tuesday morning for failing to obey a police officer’s order to continue driving straight in his 2017 Jaguar. The report says Lauletta almost hit the officer while making an illegal turn. He was stopped by a second police officer and refused to produce a driver’s license or exit the car. Police say he was arrested and charged with eluding police, obstructing administration of law and resisting arrest. He also was charged with reckless driving, disregarding an officer’s directions, improper turn and failure to stay in a marked lane.

Beathard’s wrist in question

Quarterback C.J. Beathard missed practice with an injured right wrist that could keep him out of the 49ers’ game against the Raiders on Thursday night. He got hurt in the second quarter of a loss at Arizona on Sunday when he hit his hand on a helmet. He stayed in the game and finished 14-for-28 for 190 yards and a touchdown.
