BOY, 11, PULLED OUT OF NAPERVILLE POND AFTER FALLING THROUGH ICE

-

An 11-year-old boy was rescued by Naperville firefighters and police officers after he fell through the ice of an artificial lake Sunday afternoon in the west suburb.

At 4:49 p.m., first responders got a call from someone who saw a child slipping into the water of a frozen retention pond near an apartment complex in the 1300 block of McDowell Road, according to a statement from the Naperville Fire Department.

The boy was spotted in the center of the mostly ice-covered pond and told rescuers that his feet were trapped in the mud at the bottom, the fire department said.

A Naperville police sergeant tossed out a rescue disc while a firefighter waded into the pond to assist him, the fire department said.

In video of the rescue, the boy swims over to the disc and hugs it as the fire crew pulls him toward the pond’s snow-covered embankment.

Four minutes after arriving on scene, responders successfully got the boy out of the water, the fire department said. He was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where he was listed as stable. No firefighters were injured.

3 charged with robbing DePaul student who cops say lied about kidnapping

One woman and two men were charged Monday with robbing a 19-year-old DePaul University student at gunpoint during an arranged meet-up in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, nearly four days after police said the student lied about being kidnapped near the school’s Lincoln Park campus.

Officers arrested the suspects — Tarika Gilmore, an 18-year-old from East Garfield Park, Deaaron Jackson, a 27-year-old from Humboldt Park, and Lasam Davis, a 24-year-old from Fifth City — on Friday upon finding the 19-yearold’s stolen belongings inside a deserted building, according to a statement from Chicago police.

The address was in the same West Garfield Park block where the 19-year-old said he was brought at gunpoint in a Jan. 8 robbery, police said. But he apparently showed up there on his own, expecting a tryst with a woman.

About 8 p.m. Tuesday, the student voluntarily went to the empty apartment in the 4200 block of West Wilcox to meet up with Gilmore, police said. He was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by her, Jackson and Davis once he arrived.

The 19-year-old appeared to have connected with Gilmore after searching for cheap escorts online, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Sally Brown.

3 in custody after home invasion in South Deering

Three people were in custody after an armed home invasion Sunday afternoon in the South Deering neighborhood on the Far South Side. About 4:15 p.m., a man was unloading his car when two men armed with a handgun approached him outside his home in the 2300 block of East 104th Street, according to Chicago police.

The 36-year-old ran away and headed for the 4th district police station. While he was gone, the men went into his house, police said. Four women were inside. A third man showed up to join the others, and they ordered the women to lay face down on the floor. One of the women was able to escape and ran toward a police station, police said. After she escaped, the men left. The man who first encountered them was on his way back home with officers when he spotted the intruders driving away from his home, police said.
