Lakers guard Lonzo Ball, who is averaging 9.9 points and 5.4 assists, will miss four to six weeks after spraining his left ankle in the third quarter against the Rockets on Saturday.

LeBron James (strained left groin), who has missed 13 games, has been cleared to return to fullcontact practice, as has Rajon Rondo (right ring finger surgery).

♦ Derrick Rose scored 31 points (29 in the second half), including the game-winning 18-footer with 0.6 seconds left, to help the Timberwolves knock off the visiting Suns 116-114. Karl-Anthony Towns added 30 points and 12 rebounds.

Long gets first PGA Tour win

Adam Long shot a 7-under 65, making a 14-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the Desert Classic in La Quinta, California, for his first PGA Tour title. He finished at 26-under 262. Phil Mickelson, the leader after each of the first three rounds, had a finalround 69. His 40-foot birdie try on 18 curled left at the end, and he finished one stroke back.

“I got a pretty good read off Phil’s putt,” Long said. “It was one of those putts that you just stand over [and] you just know you’re going to make. And you can’t control that, but when you have that feeling, it’s a good one. I’m in . . . disbelief right now.”

Adam Hadwin also finished one stroke back.

Wolves suffer rare shutout loss

The Wolves lost 4-0 to the Milwaukee Admirals at Allstate Arena. They have been shut out twice this season. Zach Fucale made 20 saves for the Wolves (23-14-4-1). The Admirals snapped a five-game skid.

♦ The Yankees reportedly have traded pitcher Sonny Gray to the Reds for prospect Shed Long and a draft pick, contingent on Gray agreeing to an extension with the Reds. The Reds acquired pitchers Tanner Roark and Alex Wood in December.

♦ American skier Lindsey Vonn, who was planning on retiring in December, said she is considering leaving sooner after failing to finish a World Cup super-G race in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Vonn needs five more wins to break the all-time World Cup record of 86 victories held by Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark. “Now it’s time to listen to my body and it’s time to say goodbye,” Vonn said to a Swiss interviewer.

♦ Sixth-seeded Elina Svitolina advanced to the Australian Open quarterfinals with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over 2017 U.S. Open finalist Madison Keys.

♦ Li Na, Mary Pierce and Yevgeny Kafelnikov were elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Na is the first Asian in the Hall.
