London might be calling Cubs

-

The Cubs and Cardinals are one of two matchups being considered by Major League Baseball for a series in London in 2020. The other potential series could be between the Mets and Nationals.

An announcement is expected after Opening Day this year.

MLB’s first games in Britain are scheduled for this summer, when the World Series champion Red Sox play the Yankees at London’s Olympic Stadium on June 29-30. The venue was built for the 2012 Olympics and reconfigured for the Premier League club West Ham United.

The collective-bargaining agreement calls for a 2020 opener in Asia, April games in Mexico, May games in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic and June games in Britain.

No DH in NL until at least 2022

MLB has no plans to adopt a universal DH before the 2022 season, two officials with direct knowledge of the decision told USA Today after the completion of the owners’ meetings in Orlando, Florida.

The news comes to the relief of many National League clubs and their fan bases, who are adamantly opposed to implementing a DH for the first time in their league.

Lindor might miss start of season

Indians All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor likely will miss the start of the season with a strained right calf. Lindor, one of baseball’s best allaround players, suffered the injury recently while working out.

The Indians anticipate him being out up to nine weeks, which would put his return sometime in early April.

Bauer, Indians in arbitration again

Indians right-hander Trevor Bauer has gone to salary arbitration with the Indians for the second straight year. After winning last year’s hearing, Bauer asked for $13 million and the Indians argued for $11 million.
