Sparks’ Williams banned 10 games

The WNBA suspended Los Angeles Sparks guard Riquna Williams for 10 games without pay as a result of a domestic violence incident involving her ex-girlfriend in December.

In April, Williams was arrested on felony charges of burglary with assault or battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, stemming from the December incident.

Police records show she struck ex-girlfriend Alkeria Davis in the head and pulled her hair after Davis opened the front door of her house on Dec. 6.

The criminal case in ongoing.

Sabathia starts fracas in Yankees’ win over Rays

Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, Didi Gregorius followed with a grand slam and the Yankees beat the Rays 8-3 after another surly clash between CC Sabathia and Tampa Bay.

Benches cleared in the sixth inning amid a shouting match between Sabathia and hitter Avisail Garcia. After Sabathia struck out Garcia looking to strand two runners, the 38-year-old barked and pointed at Garcia. Sabathia was restrained by Gregorius and never got close to Garcia while both benches and bullpens emptied. No punches were thrown.

◆ Bryce Harper hit a two-run double off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen with one out in the bottom of the ninth after pinch-hitter Matt Beaty hit a threerun homer off Phillies closer Hector Neris in the top half, rallying Philadelph­ia to a 9-8 victory.

Grizzlies’ Jackson in diversion program for arrest

Grizzlies forward Josh Jackson was entered into a diversion program to settle a misdemeano­r charge of resisting arrest stemming from his arrest at a music festival in Miami in May. Jackson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 draft, was traded by the Suns to the Grizzlies earlier this month.

◆ A lawyer convicted of swindling NBA star Charles Barkley and other athletes to bolster an investment scam was sentenced to five years in prison.

◆ Forward Reggie Bullock signed a two-year, $8.2 million contract with the Knicks.

Vikings backup RB Thomas suspended 3 games

Vikings running back Roc Thomas will be suspended for the first three games of the 2019 season without pay for violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse. Thomas appeared in five games for the Vikings last year as an undrafted rookie from Jacksonvil­le State.

◆ Defensive end Robert Ayers, 33, announced his retirement.
