Beckham ambivalent about Browns future

-

Odell Beckham Jr.’s disappointing first season with the Browns isn’t even over, and the star wide receiver is already making predictions about the next one.

“2020’s going to be my year,” he said. He didn’t say if it would be in Cleveland. Beckham was vague about his future on Thursday during a post-practice interview session in which he discussed his maturity as a person and player and the Browns’ growing pains amid unfulfilled expectations.

However, Beckham, who has not had the impact he or the Browns (5-7) had hoped, wouldn’t squelch rumors that he might not be with the team on a long-term basis.

Asked if he wanted to be with Cleveland next season, Beckham, who is under contract through 2023, gave a muddled answer.

“No one knows what the future holds tomorrow,” he said. “I couldn’t tell you what’s going to happen . . . . I couldn’t sit here and tell you whether I’m going to be here, want to be here, don’t want to be here — this is exactly where I’m at now and I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else.”

Although Beckham is under contract and the Browns would not be likely to cut him, he could request a trade if he wants out.

Deal for Kaepernick workout WR

The Redskins signed receiver Jordan Veasy to their practice squad after his performance at the Colin Kaepernick workout. Veasy, who was undrafted out of California in 2018, has yet to make an active roster after being on the practice squads for the Titans, Jaguars, Colts and, most recently, the Bills. Veasy has kept in touch with Kaepernick. “I spoke to him today and he told me congratulations on being signed and everything,” Veasy said Thursday. “We have good correspondence. That’s like a brother to me.”

Injury updates

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was limited in practice ahead of the game against the Chiefs on Sunday. He had been dealing with a right elbow injury but now has a toe injury, too. He was hit 12 times against the Texans on Sunday.

♦ Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield threw in practice for the first time since injuring his right hand in the loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday erasing any doubt that he wouldn’t start Sunday against the Bengals.

♦ Steelers running back James Conner (right shoulder) will miss his third consecutive game, against the Cardinals on Sunday.

♦ Broncos linebacker Von Miller said a sprained left MCL could keep him out against the Texans on Sunday.

♦ The Jaguars put linebacker Myles Jack (right knee) on injured reserve.
