Big deal: $118M for QB Tannehill
The Titans and quarterback Ryan Tannehill agreed to a four-year, $118 million contract extension hours after the NFL Players Association approved a new collective-bargaining agreement Sunday.
“Tennessee let’s run it back,” Tannehill wrote on Twitter.
After being traded from the Dolphins last March, Tannehill went 9-4 overall as a starter after the Titans benched Marcus Mariota in mid-October. In the playoffs, the Titans had road wins against the Patriots and Ravens before losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Tannehill led the NFL with a careerbest 117.5 passer rating, the fourth-highest in NFL history, and earned his first Pro Bowl nod.
Tannehill threw for 2,742 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions during the season.
♦ Offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo and the Colts agreed to a two-year contract extension worth a reported $33 million. The former Lake Zurich star, 31, was the Colts’ first-round pick (22nd overall, seven spots ahead of Bears pick Gabe Carimi) in 2011. His $16.5 million annual salary is tied with Raiders tackle Trent Brown and behind only Eagles tackle
Lane Johnson among offensive lineman.
♦ The Ravens acquired five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell from the Jaguars for a fifth-round pick (170th overall). Campbell, 33, had 6½ sacks and 56 tackles in 2019. By trading him, the Jaguars save $17.5 million in cap space.
