False promise of graduated tax

-

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has given millions of dollars in his own money to efforts to gain voter approval of a graduated income tax for Illinois. At first blush, this “tax the rich” plan sounds good. But Pritzker knows that more people leaving our state will mean less tax revenue. It then will become necessary to lower the threshold for higher tax rates, under the graduated tax, to include already hard-pressed families. Instead of trying to scam us, why doesn’t the governor donate this huge sum to fixing the state’s budget shortfalls or filling in a pension hole.

Stop trying to fool us, governor. Come up with a viable plan to cut the waste from your budget. Robert W. Dart, Niles
