Two men were ordered held without bail Thursday for their alleged roles in a 2019 shooting that left two people dead and another wounded in East Garfield Park.

LaDarius Howard and Cornelius Valentine exited a stolen white Honda Accord on the morning of April 10, 2019 and opened fire at a group of people standing at a corner in the 600 block of North St. Louis Avenue, Cook County prosecutors said.

Ismael Moore, 19, who was with the group on the corner, was immediately shot and fell to the ground, prosecutors said. A third uncharged gunman walked up to Moore and shot him several more times.

A 29-year-old man was also stuck in the leg in the hail of gunfire, but was able to escape.

Terrell Haggins, 17, and his 18-year-old old brother ran but were pursued by the shooters, who eventually caught up with the younger man when he became trapped in a small side yard in the 3400 block of West Ohio Street.

Valentine shot the boy repeatedly in the face, prosecutors said.

Haggins’ older brother got away.

The Honda was recovered later that day and two cellphones were found in the back seat. One of the phones belonged to the alleged getaway driver and included video of the co-defendants before the shooting, prosecutors said.

Detectives also used Facebook Messenger records to identity those involved in the shooting, including uncovering additional video of the shooters riding in the Honda and holding the weapons used in the attack, prosecutors said.

Howard, 19, and Valentine, 18, were taken into custody Tuesday and charged with firstdegree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Both men have extensive criminal backgrounds as juveniles, prosecutors said.

The pair are expected back in court on Aug. 25.
