For Robinson, all quiet on the extension front
Allen Robinson remains frustrated about the pace of contract-extension talks.
The Bears receiver was curt Wednesday when asked whether negotiations had progressed, one week after he first spoke publicly about scrubbing the team from his social-media accounts.
“I mean, we know where we stand at,” he said. “So right now I’m just trying to focus on the Falcons.”
Robinson was brief, too, when asked about running back Tarik Cohen’s half-joking comment Tuesday that, in negotiating his own extension, he’d “left some money on the plate” for him.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said. “I appreciate it.” Robinson still was kicking himself about letting a Mitch Trubisky pass slip through his arms Sunday — and into the hands of Giants cornerback James Bradberry for an interception. Robinson finished with only three catches — on nine targets — for 33 yards.
“I’ve made a career on making tough catches,” he said. “So whenever I’m not making all those plays, it can be frustrating, but again, that’s all, for real, just, I’ve gotta make that play.”
The play was “obviously a fluke,” Trubisky said.
“You throw him the ball the next play — that never happens again,” he said. “It’s just one of those things, freak accident, they made a good play, give them credit, move on and we still go on and win the game.”
Trubisky, whose locker is next to Robinson’s, has talked to him about the impasse.
“It’s normal as a human to have those thoughts about having a contract, uncertainty about the future,” Trubisky said. “And then having to kind of block that out for a second and then go out to practice and perform at a very high level and go out and play in the games.
“It’s good to have those conversations just to get that off your chest, figure out what the guys — not only A-Rob, but everyone else on the team — are feeling. And I think that just creates deeper relationships on the team and creates more trust between players and teammates, and it’s important for this offense.”
Trubisky said he just wants to support his teammate.
“We just continue to hope that that contract gets figured out,” he said, “because we want [Robinson] here.”
