Trade deadline comes and goes with few moves

-

Tuesday was the trade deadline in the NFL and the only news was the dearth of trades. The Dolphins were involved in two minor ones: Trading receiver Isaiah Ford to the Patriots for a sixth-round draft pick in 2022, and acquiring running back DeAndre Washington from the Chiefs along with a swap of conditional late-round draft picks.

Ford, in his third season out of Virginia Tech, was a seventh-round pick in the 2017 Draft. He has 18 catches for 184 yards this season, and 41 catches for 428 yards in his career. Washington played in only one game this year for the Chiefs. He was with Oakland in 2016-19, and rushed for 1,122 yards while averaging 4.0 yards per carry.

† The Packers reportedly were in pursuit of Texans receiver Will Fuller, offering a fourth-round pick, but the Texans wanted a second-rounder.

Brown will play

Antonio Brown has been activated from the reserve/suspended list and is set to practice with the Buccaneers for the first time Wednesday. He is expected to play Sunday night against the visiting Saints.

Brown was suspended for the first eight games of the season for multiple violations of the NFL’s personal- conduct policy.

Coach Bruce Arians said he’s not sure how much Brown will play this week, but that he’ll definitely have a role in the game plan.

“It could be 10 plays, it could be 35 plays,” the coach added. “I wouldn’t anticipate 60 plays, for sure, but we’ll just see how it goes.”

Titans will waive Beasley

The Titans have lost patience with Vic Beasley Jr. and will release the outside linebacker Wednesday. The Titans signed the eighth overall pick of the 2015 draft in March after the Falcons let him leave as a free agent. The Titans thought they could help Beasley reclaim the form that helped him lead the NFL with 15½ sacks in 2016 with a one-year deal worth $9.5 million. After missing the first two games (knee), he had only one forced fumble and just three tackles in five games.

The Titans also released long snapper Beau Brinkley and cornerback Johnathan Joseph ahead of their game against the visiting Bears.

This and that

Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is seeking more opinions to determine whether he will need season- ending surgery on his sprained right ankle. Garoppolo sustained his second high ankle sprain of the season on Sunday and will miss at least four to six weeks as he tries to heal. Coach Kyle Shanahan said surgery is a possibility and that would shut Garoppolo down for the rest of the season. All-Pro tight end George Kittle is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken foot that will sideline him for at least eight weeks.

† The Cowboys reportedly will bench quarterback Ben DiNucci and choose between Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert to start against the visiting Steelers.
