$ 10K reward in shooting of 5- year- old boy in Roseland
Nine days after a 5- year- old boy was shot in the head as he sat on his family’s couch on the Far South Side, Chicago police officials and anti- violence activists — offering a $ 10,000 reward — called for anyone with information on the shooting to come forward.
“Right now the detectives are working extremely hard, but they cannot solve the case without the proper information,” CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said Wednesday.
The boy, who remains in “extremely critical condition,” was in his home in the 200 block of West 115th Street about 7: 30 p. m. on Nov. 16 when a bullet came through a window and struck him in the head, according to police officials. The boy was sitting on his family’s couch, playing with an iPad with his father when he was shot.
“He should not be involved in this gun violence,” Deenihan said. “He didn’t do anything to bring those bullets to his window, and we really need the community’s help to solve this case.”
The $ 10,000 reward is offered by the antiviolence group “I’m Telling, Don’t Shoot.”
“It’s timeout for the nonsense,” said Early Walker, the group’s founder. “This family deserves justice. Right now, this child is fighting for his life. [ It is] the day before Thanksgiving and his family is sitting bedside, praying and hoping that their child lives tonight.”
Last week, Chicago police released video footage that shows someone leaning out of an SUV and firing at the boy’s home.
In September, after 7- year- old Dajore Wilson was shot and killed in Canaryville, Walker announced $ 10,000 was also being offered for information related to the shooting.
