Rev. James Gregory Thompson, OSA, age 86, Born into Eternal Life on February 25, 2021. Loving son of the late John G. and Lucille (Lukosunas) Thompson. Dear brother of the late Sharon M. Thompson. He professed simple vows on September 4, 1963 and solemn vows on September 4, 1966. He was ordained a Priest on June 5, 1971. Fr. Thompson earned his B.A. in Philosophy in 1967, and his M. Div. in 1971 from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. He earned an M.A. in Spirituality from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1977. After ordination in 1971, Fr. Thompson served at St. Rita Parish, Chicago, Immaculate Conception/ St. Henry Parish, St. Louis, MO, as Director of Novices, and St. John Stone Friary, Chicago, as Director of Theologians. He was named Prior of St. John Stone Friary in 1997 and served as Chaplain at LCM Hospital, Evergreen Park. Visitation Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60620. Covid-19 guidelines for social distancing and masks to be observed by visitors. Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 p.m. Interment in Augustinian Plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL, Wednesday, March 3rd, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Augustinians, 5401 S. Cornell Ave., Chicago, IL 60615-5664 to support care of elderly friars and seminary formation of young friars appreciated.
