SOX 2, MARINERS 2 (7)

Another tie

Andrew Vaughn drew his fourth walk, stole a base and collected his fourth RBI in four games with a single, and Luis Robert, Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada and Seby Zavala also singled, but that was it for a lineup featuring everyone except Yasmani Grandal and Nick Madrigal from a possible Opening Day nine. Wins don’t mean much in the spring, but it’s worth a mention that the Sox (0-3-3) are winless in their first week of Cactus League games under Tony La Russa, especially since La Russa plays these games to win.

Triple play!

Tim Anderson was thrown out at home to complete a Mariners triple play that began with Jose Abreu, batting with the bases loaded, rapping into a pair of outs on a third-to-home-to-first sequence. First baseman Jantzen Witte nailed Anderson on a close play at the plate.

The Sox turned four double plays.

Cease ‘devastating’

Dylan Cease, who has not pitched in a game yet this spring, had another sharp live batting practice, throwing five innings. La Russa saw two of the innings and said Cease was “excellent.”

“A very devastating arsenal of weapons that that guy has,” said his catcher, Jonathan Lucroy.

Prospect Jonathan Stiever, who along with Jimmy Lambert might not make the Opening Day roster but are there for rotation depth, allowed one run and three hits in two innings. He struck out two and walked none. Zack Burdi rebounded from a poor outing with a perfect inning against the top of the M’s lineup, recording one strikeout.
