Luminaries buy into Red Stars

Additions to the Red Stars’ ownership group announced Tuesday included actress Aimee Garcia, American gymnast Josh Dixon, Netflix executive Bela Bajaria and Warner Bros. executive Channing Dungey.

Red Stars principal owner Arnim Whisler said that the new members of the group, most of whom have personal ties to the city, were committed to elevating the club and the National Women’s Soccer League “not only in Chicago, but nationally and internatio­nally.” The team’s season opener is May 16.

Also joining the ownership group were entertainm­ent exec Keli Lee, SpringHill Company CEO Devin Johnson and his daughter Carys, restaurate­ur Ken Kaufman, journalist Nora Mabie, entreprene­ur Kim Vender Moffat, entertainm­ent lawyers Nick Coleman and John Moonves, and Jim, Graham and Kirk Allen, owners of the Chicago-based Sloan manufactur­ing company.

† The NWSL announced that no disciplina­ry action would be taken against the Houston Dash after an investigat­ion into claims by Red Stars defender Sarah Gorden that a BBVA Stadium security guard racially profiled her and her boyfriend.

Brewers put Yelich back on injured list

Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich went back on the injured list one day after getting activated because of the lower back strain that has bothered the 2018 NL MVP for the last three weeks. The team recalled outfielder Tyrone Taylor from Triple-A Nashville.

† The Nationals reinstated outfielder Juan Soto from the 10-day injured list, but he will be limited to pinch-hitting duty for now.

NHL Rangers miffed about Wilson’s fine

Tom Wilson of the Capitals was fined but not suspended for his actions during a postwhistl­e scrum, an outcome the Rangers believe isn’t sufficient punishment. The team released a statement chastising the league for “a derelictio­n of duty by NHL Head of Player Safety, George Parros.”
