Doncic leads Slovenia to Olympics

Mavericks star Luka Doncic totaled 31 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds to lead Slovenia to a 96-85 victory against host Lithuania in an Olympic qualifying final. The win clinched Slovenia’s first-ever berth in the Olympics, while Lithuania won’t be there after making seven consecutiv­e Olympics since becoming independen­t from the Soviet Union.

In another win-and-in game, the Bulls’ Tomas Satoransky scored 12 points to help the Czech Republic defeat Greece 97-72. The Czechs, first-time Olympians, will be in Group A of the Olympic preliminar­y round with the U.S., France and Iran.

Elsewhere, Italy (which eliminated Serbia) and Germany (which eliminated Brazil) also made the Olympics. Serbia was the runner-up to the U.S. in the 2016 Games in Rio.

Toronto FC fired coach Chris Armas. Armas played 10 seasons with the Fire. In 1998, he helped the expansion Fire win both the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup. He went on to the 2003 Supporters’ Shield and three more Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups with the Fire (2000, 2003, 2006).
