Hyman, Evelyn
Evelyn Hyman, nee Stotland, age 99, born Dec. 4, 1921, truly a “woman of valor.” She was the precious “rock” of the family; Evelyn attended Northwestern University when few Jews were accepted; widowed at an early age, after being married for only 9 years, Evelyn was a pillar of strength, raising two boys on her own while teaching full time. She was the family matriarch; Judaism and family were most important to her; she made sure holidays were celebrated together and her house was always open for those that needed someplace to go. She generously distributed her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, always having a fresh batch for company. She was a true role model, a strong woman, always loving, generous, thoughtful and kind. Evelyn was a CPS teacher at Armstrong school for over 31 years, where she positively influenced the lives of hundreds of students. Beloved wife of the late Henry Leonard Hyman; cherished mother of Larry (Paula) Hyman and Gene Robert Hyman; adored grandmother of Steven (Elitza) Hyman and Marissa (Eli) Amstadter and proud great-grandmother of Jordan, Jonah, Benjamin and Jori; devoted daughter of Samuel and Tillie Stotland; precious sister of Diane (Nik) Repkin and the late Sidney (Ruth) Stotland; dear aunt of many nieces and nephews.
