Vikes part of twin bill in Week 2 of ‘MNF’

- BY LORENZO REYES USA Today

Yes, the NFL Draft was held less than two weeks ago. But fret not, football fans, because more games in the 2022 schedule have been revealed.

The NFL announced Monday that two games will air as part of a Week 2 doubleheader on ‘‘Monday Night Football’’: the Titans at the Bills in the first leg and the Vikings at the Eagles in the second.

What’s interesting about the doubleheader is that it bucks convention. The NFL and its broadcast partners typically don’t compete against each other in prime-time slots during Monday, Thursday and Sunday night games. Yet the games in the Week 2 doubleheader will have some overlap, with the TitansBills showdown starting at 6:15 p.m. Chicago time on ESPN and the Vikings-Eagles matchup starting at 7:30 p.m. Chicago time on ABC.

ESPN and ABC are part of the Disney network. ESPN just revamped its ‘‘Monday Night Football’’ broadcast booth, announcing the hires of play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and analyst Troy Aikman to lead the telecast.

The Bills are the reigning AFC East champions and one of the teams expected to compete for the conference title, and the Titans won the AFC South last season and also have high expectations.

The Eagles and Vikings finished second in their respective divisions, the NFC East and NFC North. The Eagles were the No. 7 seed in the NFC last season, the final team to enter the playoffs, but were bounced in the wild-card round by the Buccaneers.

The NFL slowly will announce the full 2022 schedule this week, with the full reveal taking place Thursday. The league announced its 2022 international-series games last week.
