Erl Dordal, age 94, passed away on May 11, 2022 with members of his family at his side. Born in Larimore, ND on September 22, 1927 to Rev. Dr. Lars and Clara (Wegge) Dordal, Erl was the youngest of five children: Raymond, Adeline, Harald, and Lyall.

Erl attended Larimore schools, graduating as valedictor­ian in 1945. He entered the Army Signal Corps in1946, serving as an instructor for the Elements of Radar course.

He attended the University of Chicago for his undergradu­ate studies and medical school. After graduation, he was Chief Medical Resident and completed a two-year fellowship in Gastroente­rology.

Erl continued as a faculty member at the U of C Medical School, working on research related to the liver. Beginning in 1969 he served as Chief of Gastroente­rology at the VA Lakeside Hospital.

In 1976 he moved to the Columbus-Cuneo-Cabrini Medical Center as Chief of the Medical Service, remaining there until his retirement. Erl studied Egyptology during retirement, volunteeri­ng as a docent at the Oriental Institute

Erl was married to Mildred “Milly” Reinke in 1952. They had four children, Peter (Peg), Kristin (Paul Poerschke), Andrew (Anne) and Lisa (Laurie Samuels). His dear wife Milly passed in 2001.

In 2002, Erl married Dorothy “Dotty” Powers, who passed in 2021. Erl is survived by his four children, by Dotty’s children Vicki (Colm) and Carl Powers, ten grandchild­ren, and eight great-grandchild­ren.
