In Thursday’s game action, Pete Alonso kept the host Mets rolling with a tworun homer in the 10th inning for a 7-6 win over the Cardinals.

Paul Goldschmidt tied the score 5-5 with two outs in the ninth off Mets closer Edwin Diaz with his fourth RBI of the game. Albert Pujols hit a runscoring double-play grounder in the 10th of the Cardinals’ first-extra inning game this year.

Guardians star third baseman Jose Ramirez will undergo X-rays and other tests after fouling a ball off his shin in the eighth inning in the 4-2 loss to the visiting Reds.

Meanwhile, manager Terry Francona, who just returned after being out with COVID-19, will miss Friday’s series opener against the Tigers to have a minor surgical procedure.

In Reds news, first baseman Joey Votto will rejoin the team against the Blue Jays after missing 16 games following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

In game action, Tyler Naquin homered in the fifth inning and scored on Kyle Farmer’s go-ahead single in the eighth, leading the Reds to a series sweep.

Story slugged a pair of two-run homers in the second and third innings and a three-run shot in the eighth, and he also singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth with the help of a wild throw.

Jackie Bradley Jr. added an RBI double in the sixth as the Red Sox won for the fifth time in seven games.

Yu Darvish escaped a sixth-inning jam and retired $179 million of offense in Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos in a key spot, pitching seven shutout innings as the Padres took two of three from the host Phillies with a 2-0 win.

Darvish (4-1) allowed six hits, struck out five and walked none. The Padres have won each of Darvish’s last six starts since April 17 and he’s 4-0 over that span.
