In about-face, Slay staying with Eagles
A day after sources reported star cornerback Darius Slay was going to be released by the Eagles, he agreed to a $42 million extension, ESPN reported.
The deal adds two years to Slay’s current contract, which was set to expire after the 2024 season. ESPN, which said the deal was confirmed by Slay’s agents, includes $23 million in guaranteed money.
Slay, 32, has made five Pro Bowls. He has 26 career interceptions ad 533 tackles.
NFL wants arbitration for Flores
NFL lawyers are urging a New York judge to change her mind and agree to let racial discrimination claims against the league and its teams go to arbitration rather than trial.
In written arguments late Wednesday, the lawyers said Judge Valerie E. Caproni in Manhattan should reverse her recent decision finding that some claims by NFL coach Brian Flores can go to trial.
Caproni ruled March 1 that discrimination claims by two other Black coaches, Steve Wilks and Ray Horton, must go to arbitration. She let claims Flores made against the Dolphins go to arbitration.
Bengals’ Mixon won’t be indicted
Bengals running back Joe Mixon was armed with a legal weapon when a teenage boy was shot near the player’s home this month, but he did not fire the gun or do anything illegal, authorities said as they announced the indictments of Mixon’s sister and her boyfriend.
Lamonte Brewer, whom authorities have identified as the shooter, remained at large Thursday, while Shalonda Mixon was apprehended Thursday afternoon by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported, citing U.S. Marshals supervisor Charles Sanso.
