Palos Heights — Dr. Reuben Terrence Nichols, formerly of Chicago, passed away surrounded by his family, after a brief illness. The second of two sons, Dr. Nichols was born in McComb, Mississipp­i to the late Vivian (Bridges) and S.T. Nichols. He matriculat­ed at the Illinois Institute of Technology and earned his medical degree from the UIC College of Medicine. He was known by his patients as a compassion­ate physician. His colleagues knew him to be a vital contributo­r to the wellness of many south side families.

Dr. Nichols delighted in hosting the Thanksgivi­ng gatherings his large extended family enjoyed over the years. He was a true sports fan, an avid golfer, and he enjoyed travel. In September 2022, Dr. Nichols and Cathy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversar­y with a lavish party followed by a week in Napa Valley.

With the passing of Dr. Nichols, the community has lost a kind and generous servant. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine McEwen Nichols; children, Terrence Reuben and Benae Bridges; granddaugh­ter Tiara Nichols; brother Brian (Mary); sister Sherry Robinson; niece Ashlee Nichols Greenfield (David); great-niece Kauai Greenfield; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, colleagues, and former patients.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8301 S. Damen Ave, Chicago. Visitation will take place from 9:00am - 11:00am; the service will follow. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to donate to Emmanuel Baptist Church or to an HBCU of your choosing
