Ex-Bears QB Siemian signs with Jets

- Sun-Times wires

The Jets signed former Bears quarterback Trevor Siemian to the practice squad, giving them an experienced backup to embattled starter Zach Wilson.

Coach Robert Saleh insists the team is sticking with Wilson because “right now, he’s who gives us the best chance to win.”

But Siemian at least gives Saleh and the Jets another option if Wilson continues to falter. Career backup Tim Boyle was the only other quarterback on the team’s roster.

This is Siemian’s second stint with the Jets after he was with them in 2019.

Siemian was among the Bengals’ cuts after training camp. He started one game for the Bears last season — against the Jets in place of an injured Justin Fields, and was 14for-25 for 179 yards and a touchdown with an interception in a 31-10 loss.

Colin Kaepernick, who played six seasons for the 49ers, wrote a letter to Jets general manager Joe Douglas asking Douglas to consider signing him to the practice squad, multi-platinum rapper J. Cole revealed Tuesday. Cole shared an Instagram post featuring the letter, dated Sept. 21.

Packers get some good news

Packers running back Aaron Jones and receiver Christian Watson are expected to return from hamstring injuries and play Thursday night against the Lions.

Watson, who missed the first three games of the season, said he expects to make his first appearance.

Receiver Romeo Doubs told reporters that Jones, who pulled a hamstring in the season opener against the Bears, also will return.

Ravens add LB Van Noy

The Ravens reportedly agreed to terms with veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy, who will begin on the practice squad but could get elevated soon.

Panthers starting safety Xavier Woods is expected to miss four to six weeks with an injured hamstring.
