Illini fight off Nebraska in OT

The Illini (17-5, 8-3 Big Ten) led 72-62 with 3:29 left before the Cornhusker­s (16-7, 6-6) went on an 11-0 run and took a onepoint lead on a jumper by Rienk Mast with nine seconds to play. Domask then split two free throws with three seconds left to force overtime.

Keisei Tominaga scored 31 points and Mast 19 for Nebraska, which was coming off an overtime victory Thursday against No. 6 Wisconsin.

♦ Lance Jones scored 20 points, Zach Edey added 18 points and 13 rebounds and No. 2 Purdue (21-2, 10-2 Big Ten) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 75-69 victory against No. 6 Wisconsin (16-6, 8-3) in Madison, Wisconsin. Tyler Wahl led the Badgers with 20 points.

NBA 76ers star Embiid to have procedure on knee

The 76ers said reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid will have an unspecifie­d procedure this week to repair the injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee. The team didn’t say how long Embiid, who is averaging a league-leading 35.3 points to go with 11.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists, would be out.

♦ Bradley Beal scored a season-high 43 points against his former team to carry the visiting Suns to a 140-112 rout of the Wizards. Beal spent 11 seasons with the Wizards before being dealt last offseason.

MISCELLANE­OUS Copper to represent U.S. in Olympic qualifying

Sky star Kahleah Copper was one of 12 players named to USA Basketball’s Olympic qualifying tournament team that will compete at the FIBA women’s Olympic qualifying tourney Thursday through Sunday in Antwerp, Belgium. The Summer Olympics will be held July 26 to Aug. 11 in Paris.

♦ FIFA announced that the first game of the 2026 World Cup will be played June 11 in Mexico City and that the final will be played July 19 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The U.S. team will play its groupstage games June 12 and June 25 in Inglewood, California, and July 19 in Seattle.

♦Heavy rain and high winds forced the PGA Tour first to postpone, then to cancel the final round of the Pebble Beach (California) Pro-Am, giving reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark a one-stroke victory over Ludvig Aberg.
