Light­foot an­nounces her in­au­gu­ra­tion de­tails

Mayor-elect Lori Light­foot will be sworn in as Chicago’s next mayor on May 20 at the Win­trust Arena, her tran­si­tion team an­nounced Fri­day.

Light­foot will take the oath of of­fice at 10:30 a.m. and will serve as the city’s first African-Amer­i­can woman mayor as well as its first openly gay leader.

City Clerk Anna Va­len­cia and Trea­surer-elect Melissa Conyears-Ervin will also be sworn in that day — the first time all of the city’s top lead­ers are women of color.

Twelve new al­der­men also will be sworn in, ac­cord­ing to a tran­si­tion news re­lease.

Light­foot and her wife, Amy Esh­le­man, will open the mayor’s of­fice to the pub­lic at 2 that af­ter­noon for the cus­tom­ary open house, the re­lease said.

More tick­et­ing and event de­tails will be an­nounced in early May, ac­cord­ing to the re­lease.
