Islanders run points streak to 12 straight
Scott Mayfield scored in the third period, Thomas Greiss stopped 37 shots and the Islanders notched their 11th win in 12 games with a 2-1 victory over the Panthers.
Mathew Barzal had a goal and an assist to help the Isles rebound from an overtime loss to the Penguins on Thursday. The Islanders earned a point for the 12th straight game.
Aleksander Barkov scored and Sergei Bobrovsky finished with 34 saves for the Panthers, who lost in regulation for just the second time in 13 games.
With the Panthers trailing 1-0, Barkov tied it with a power-play goal at 6:12 of the third, beating Greiss from the right side for his fourth.
Mayfield regained the lead for the Islanders 38 seconds later with a shot from the right point that appeared to deflect in.
Caps continue surge: Evgeny Kuznetsov and Jonas Siegenthaler scored as the league-leading Capitals beat the Golden Knights 5-2 in a meeting of the 2018 Stanley Cup finalists.
Kuznetsov revived his famous bird celebration, flapping his arms after scoring 58 seconds in, and added an assist in the Capitals’ sixth consecutive victory. The Caps have won 10 of 11 and haven’t lost in regulation since Oct. 14.
