Kings’ Tof­foli scores 3 out­side

Tyler Tof­foli scored twice in the fi­nal minute to com­plete a hat trick and the Kings beat the Avalanche 3-1 on Satur­day night at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the third and fi­nal out­door NHL game this sea­son.

Tof­foli put the Kings ahead 2-1 with 54 sec­onds re­main­ing, then scored in to an empty net with 4.3 sec­onds left.

The Kings won their sec­ond straight, im­prov­ing to 4-12-1 since New Year's Day.

At 6,621 feet above sea level, this was the high­est al­ti­tude ever for an NHL game. The Sta­dium Se­ries game was a sell­out — 43,574 fans, more than twice the ca­pac­ity of the Pepsi Cen­ter in Den­ver.

Karls­son out for sea­son: Sharks D Erik Karls­son is out for the the sea­son af­ter suf­fer­ing a bro­ken thumb, the team an­nounced.

Karls­son, 29, suf­fered the in­jury to his left thumb dur­ing Fri­day’s 3-2 win over the Jets and will have surgery.

Karls­son leads the Sharks with 40 points (six goals, 34 as­sists) in 56 games this sea­son af­ter sign­ing an eight-year, $92 mil­lion ex­ten­sion last June.

Also, F Evan­der Kane was sus­pended three games for el­bow­ing Jets D Neal Pionk. Kane, 28, leads the Sharks with 21 goals and 110 penalty min­utes.

’Canes tak­ing it out­doors: The Hur­ri­canes will host the 2021 NHL Sta­dium Se­ries game next February at CarterFin­ley Sta­dium in Raleigh, North Carolina.
