“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” (9 p.m., 10 p.m., 12 a.m., Showtime): In the new episode “Children of the Royal Sun,” Sister Molly (Kerry Bishé) is shocked to discover Josefina (Jessica Garza) is Tiago’s (Daniel Zovatto) sister after Josefina confides in her. Meanwhile, Tiago and Lewis’ (Nathan Lane) investigat­ion leads them to the Vega House. Townsend (Michael Gladis) gets an unwelcome lecture about his personal life. Later, Tiago confronts Mateo (Johnathan Nieves).

“Naked and Afraid XL” (7 p.m., 11 p.m., Discovery): Contestant­s on this harrowing reality competitio­n series never have had an easy time of it, but the 12 new survivalis­ts introduced in tonight’s season premiere will confront unpreceden­ted challenges during their 40 days on the scorching savannah of South Africa. Only the strong will make it to the end of their time in this brutal region, known as the Valley of the Banished, and with resources scarcer than ever, anyone not pulling his weight will be cast out for the good of the group.

“Snowpierce­r” (7 p.m., 8 p.m., TNT): In “Prepare to Brace,” Layton (Daveed Diggs) uses his new authority as train detective to investigat­e the murder while also gathering some vital intel on the side for the brewing revolution. Elsewhere, Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) is challenged by a critical shortage of resources, which could lead to potentiall­y drastic consequenc­es for everyone aboard the train.

“Good Witch” (8 p.m., Hallmark): In a new episode called “The Dinner,” underlying tensions between partners bubble to the surface during a progressiv­e dinner that brings together several of Middleton’s favorite couples. For her part, Cassie (Catherine Bell) hopes the dinner will give her friends a chance to get to know Joy (Katherine Barrell). Trying her hand as a columnist, Martha (Catherine Disher) investigat­es the identity of an unidentifi­ed advice-seeker.

“I Know This Much Is True” (8 p.m., 10:30 p.m., 12:30 a.m., HBO): Sheffer (Rosie O’Donnell) rehearses Dominick (Mark Ruffalo) for a critical hearing with Hatch’s review board that could decide Thomas’ fate in the new “Episode 3.” Later, a chance encounter with an old classmate plucks the scab off some painful childhood memories. Dominick reflects on his years with Thomas in college, where Dominick met Dessa (Kathryn Hahn) and Thomas’ illness first began to manifest.

“sMothered” (9 p.m., 1 a.m., TLC): Two new mother-and-daughter pairings are introduced as this hit reality series opens Season 2 with a premiere called “What Mom Wants, Mom Gets.” Helicopter mom Sunhe tries to reconnect with daughter Angelica by crashing her date with Jason. Elsewhere, Cristina and Kathy come up with a scheme designed to convince Carlo that they should all move in together.

“Run” (9:30 p.m., 11:30 p.m., 2 a.m., HBO): This beguiling character-driven dramedy from Vicky Jones — a frequent collaborat­or of Emmy-winning writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) — reaches the end of its first season with a finale called “Trick,” in which Ruby and Billy (Merritt Wever, Domhnall Gleeson) ponder their future together as the end of their journey together approaches. Elsewhere, Babe and Laurel (Tamara Podemski, Waller-Bridge) are forced together as they follow a new lead.
