Billionaire tax isn’t a solution

-

The TV ads for Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s “fair tax” laser in on billionaires as the main solution to getting the state’s taxation system corrected. According to Forbes, Illinois has 17 billionaires in a state with a population of 12.7 million. This means the proponents believe the answer to our state’s revenue problems can largely be solved by increasing the tax on 0.00013% of the Illinois population. Really? It’s fantasy to think a change in our tax law won’t eventually hit all taxpayers. — Jim Gault, Wilmette
