Near record-breaking temperatures in the 70s are forecast to continue in the Chicago area possibly into early next week, says the NationalWeather Service.

As of 3:15 p.m., it was 74 degrees at O’Hare International Airport, one degree away from Nov. 6’s all-time high of 75, weather service meteorologist Lee Carlaw said.

“We’ve flirted with it each day here, getting close,” said Carlaw said of the records, adding that on Wednesday temps soared to 74degrees atO’Hare, tying a record set in 1978.

“Can’t rule out an extra degree or so today, but it’s hard this time of year, the sun’s angle is getting low and the amount of time to warm up is limited,” Carlaw said.

But as of 5:20 p.m., the National Weather Service said we never made it higher than 74, which ended up to be the day’s high.

Dry, pleasant conditions will likely stay with us throughout the weekend and potentially into early next week, dropping to the 50’s overnight. Ifwarmdays persist until Monday, Chicago could see its longest stretch of 70-degree days ever forNovember.

Low to mid-70s are predicted on Monday and Tuesday, as again we will get lose to exceeding the record high.

“Sunday the record is 73 degrees at O’Hare, and we are forecasting 74 or 75,” Carlawsaid.

The next chance of rain could be late Monday or Tuesday night when a relatively strong autumn storm will “slice throughthe area,” Carlawsaid.
