Inspiring restraint onHalloween
OnHalloween, we put out a table filled with candy near the sidewalk for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters. We had a sign, “Be Kind. Take only one!”
We did not immediately fill the table in case someone cleaned out the entire stash. Our planwas to replenish the candy every 15 minutes or when it got low. To the credit of the kids who came by, every one of themwas kind. Never once in the four hourswas the entire table cleared. If any good is coming out of this pandemic, maybe young people are learning to be more kind and considerate of others.
