Changes to daily TV preview feature

- — Colin McMahon, editor-in-chief of the Chicago Tribune

Hey, TV fans, we’ve got a few changes in store that I’d like to tell you about.

First, we all know how much television has changed over the last several years. And, putting aside the spectacles of singing broccoli that I see advertised during Bears games, the changes have been mostly for the better.

Our daily coverage of what towatch, however, has failed to keep up with all the good stuff.

So, starting tomorrow, we are replacing our TV grids—which covered only a few hours and left out a lot of channels—in favor of a larger “What to Watch” feature. “What to Watch” is compiled by editors fromthe outfit that produces TV Weekly and TV Guide Magazine — yes, these are expert recommendations from people who get paid towatch television for a living.

They find the hot shows, the shows that are about to get hot, and the hidden gems. Plus, they weed out the junk. Their recommendations are as up to date aswe can make them. We think that their advice in this format will help TV fans find more of what they’re looking for, faster.

What’s more, for Chicago Tribune subscribers who prefer to use grids, we’ve partnered with TV Weekly to offer a special rate on the country’s leading localized television magazine.

TV Weekly provides detailed daily grid show listings, with more channels and more hours thanwe could ever hope to offer, aswell as special movie and sports sections. Plus, the 48-page magazine includes features and columns from TV Weekly’s sister publication, TV Guide Magazine.

The shifts we’ve seen in television over the last several years—broadcast, cable, TV-connected devices, TV on a computer, apps, websites and tablets, etc.—make it impossible to keep up with everything in the limited space we have in the newspaper. So, we’ve decided to present you the best to view each night and leave the rest to TV Weekly.

If you are a Tribune subscriber, today’s home delivery will include a free trial issue of TV Weekly. Please look for the special offer for Tribune subscribers or call 1-844-612-1977. We hope our home delivery customers will enjoy the complimentary copy and will consider subscribing.
