Social Security, political will

-

Last Sunday’s editorialwas excellent in identifying the problem President-elect Joe Biden will confront regarding Social Security andMedicare reform over the next four years (“The Biden Presidency: HowJoe Biden can saveMedicare and Social Security”). My concern is that the necessary political will to fix the problem will not surface, especially given the public’s perception that government can just print more money to fund both programs without fundamental change to the programs themselves.

Hey, it hasworked so far in dealing with the economic fallout fromthe pandemic, so why not just continue? At least until the country’s fiscal situation deteriorates to the point wherewe inevitably fall off a fiscal cliff into a true depression.
