Hero of the month

Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care in North Riverside has found a way to honor its community’s Scottish heritage while raising funds for a worthy cause. The Heroes for Heroes online store honors a different Scottish hero each month, who is depicted on a T-shirt for sale on the site. Proceeds support the people who live and work at Caledonia Senior Living during the COVID-19 crisis. June’s Sottish hero is Jim Clark, racing champion and 1965 Indianapolis 500 winner. Past hero shirts are for sale, including Isadora Duncan, a world-renowned classical dancer who changed the way women performed, and William Wallace who was portrayed in the movie “Braveheart.”They also added two children’s images featuring Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster, and a unicorn.

Visit the online store at chicagoscots.itemorder.com/sale for more information.

Moving forward

As more people receive the COVID-19 vaccine, The Admiral at the Lake is beginning to look forward to post-pandemic life. In March, the community in Chicago hosted “Moving Forward – Safely, Together.” Panelists CEO Nadia Geigler, medical director Eric Mizuno, and resident Minna Taylor gathered to discuss how they navigated this past year and how events will look as we move toward a post-pandemic world.

Celebrating women

Traditionally March is a month dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments of women throughout history and contemporary society with Women’s History March, and commemorating the cultural, political and socioeconomic achievements of women during International Women’s Day on March 8. Residents and team members at Anthology of Wheaton celebrated these observations in a video featuring pictures of them posing as the women depicted in the iconic “We Can Do It!” World War II wartime poster. The video also featured quotes from inspirational women from Margaret Thatcher to Melinda Gates.

Residents give back

Throughout the year, residents and staff at Villa St. Benedict in Lisle strive to be good neighbors by supporting causes. Recently they banded together to organize a donation drive for SCARE — School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education. More than 60 boxes were sent through SCARE’s Reuse Center. Located in Addison, SCARCE is an award-winning environmental education non-profit dedicated to creating sustainable communities.
