Sheehy, Eleanor

Eleanor Schmitt Sheehy, 95, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021.

She was the widow of John (Jack) Sheehy, who died in 2004 following 55 years of marriage. Eleanor was born and raised in Evanston, Ill., and was a lifelong Cubs fan. She was the devoted mother of six children, mostly raised in Bloomington, Ill and an involved member of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Mount Prospect, Ill. A honors graduate of St. Scholastica College (now Benedictine College) in Atchison, Kansas, she valued the importance of education and had a love of reading. Eleanor was a private person, constant in her faith and grateful for her life. When reminded she was a contemporary of Queen Elizabeth, she replied that she had enjoyed more of life’s true riches. “I’ve had a very active imagination all my life,” she said, “but I never wanted to be queen. My blessings are greater.” She will be greatly missed, but her warmth, kindness and gentle spirit will be remembered forever. She is survived by her children John (Mary Kay), Rick (Chris), Ann Taylor (Rick), James, Mari Lynch and Tom (Lisa) and special family friend Mary Claire Hunter,

13 grandchildren, (Renee, Joseph, Kathy, John Paul, Patricia “Trish” Taylor, Ashley Lowe, Michael, Patrick, Maggie, Kevin and Caitlin Goff, John Lynch and William “Liam” Lynch, and 9 great-grandchildren (soon to be 10). She was predeceased by her parents John and Rose Schmitt, her sister Gert and two brothers John “Jack” and Paul, and her dear sisterin-law Irene Schmitt. Memorial services will be held at St. Raymond de Penafort Parish, Mt. Prospect, Ill on what would have been her 96th birthday, Saturday June 26 at 10 am.
