Horne, Patricia Collins

Patricia Collins Horne, 87, passed away on January

20, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born in Chicago and raised in Glenview, Pat attended North Shore Country Day School. After her junior year of Smith College’s class of ’56, she married her lifelong love, Peter Dodge Horne and the two had a lifetime of adventures traveling and flyfishing around the world. In addition, they raised 5 children in Deerfield where Pat served on the public library and Holy Cross School boards. The family

moved to Winnetka in 1982.

In 1981, Pat took part in the graduation ceremonies at Smith College after taking economics courses at Lake Forest College to finish her degree. A few years

later, she bought a retail business in Winnetka called Multiple Choices. She’d found her calling. With her love of travel, Pat brought in special decorative accessories and pottery from Italy, Spain, Mexico and elsewhere. Countless North Shore brides are still using their Multiple Choices serving pieces and tableware decades later. Many laughs were had

among the “shop girls,” Pat’s friends and contemporaries who worked at the store. Multiple Choices was a first job for many young people and Pat’s impact as a mentor continues to be felt.

An avid collector of painted carved wooden animals from Oaxaca, Mexico, Pat also acquired dozens of nativity sets from every continent. She left an indelible mark on the community, having served as the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce president, and was instrumental in creating “Streetscape” which revitalized the downtown during the 1990’s.

In 2009, Pat sold her business and she and Peter moved to The Mather in Evanston. Within months, she was the first Chairman of the Resident’s Council. She was also very engaged with Evanston’s Connections for the Homeless, where she collected clothing and helped serve meals.

Pat was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Peter, her parents, Henry and Lindy Collins, her brother Bill Collins, and her son-in-law John Ahearne. She is survived by her 5 children, Bill, Betsy Ahearne, Bob (Kelly) Mike (Kim) and Kate (Ed) Rutledge. Her 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren will sorely miss Coleman Lake fishing trips, vacations in Mexico and most of all their Nana Pat.

A memorial service is being planned for April 2, 2022 at Saints Faith Hope and Charity Catholic Church in Winnetka at 11 am with a visitation at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts to Connections

for the Homeless 2121 Dewey Avenue Evanston, IL 60201 https://www.connect2home.org/ would be

most welcome.
