Annie T. ‘Nan’ Nash, nee McHugh, a resident of Niles, IL, formerly of Chicago,

passed peacefully on January 22, 2022, at 92 years young surrounded by her eight children.

Born March 25, 1929, in Iniskeen, County Monaghan, Republic of Ireland. Emigrated to Chicago in 1949, at the age of 20. Beloved wife of Bernard ‘Bud’ Nash for 31 years, who preceded her in death in May, 1983. Adored daughter of Hugh and Annie (nee Murphy) McHugh, and beloved sister of Hugh (Mary, nee Mulally), Owen (Margaret, nee Kindlon), John (Ann, nee O’Connor), Patrick (Julia, nee McHugh), Thomas (Mary, nee Courtney), Mary ‘Cissy’ Steele (William), Catherine ‘Kitty’ Flood (Joseph) of Nottingham, England, and Rose (Thomas) Dalton, of Crestwood. Of her siblings, only Kitty and Rose survive. Also surviving are her in-laws: Thomas’ wife Mary, who still resides on the McHugh family farm on Carrick Lane, Inniskeen, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, and Tom Dalton, a native of County Longford, Ireland.

Loving and adored mother of Michael (Kathleen Brennan-Nash), Mary Kelley (Thomas), Patrick (Sari, nee Kahn), Edward (Maureen, nee O’Brien), Nancy (John McCabe), Kathleen Moore (Donald), Bernard (Bernice, nee Sandberg), Thomas (Tammy, nee Nickels). Her sons-in-law and daughters-in-law grieve equally, because as a Mother-in-law, she was the GOAT.

Also, the adored, respected, and cherished grandmother of 21, and their 10 spouses, who were welcomed into her loving embrace as her own. Thomas (Joanne, nee Wenke) Kelley, Annie (Mark) McGuire, Michael Kelley (Jason Koval), Colleen Kelley, Lindsay (Tim) O’Brien, Dr. Rachel Nash, M.D.,

Emily Nash, Edward Nash (Carol, nee Silva), Bridget Nash, Sarah Nash, Melissa McCabe, James McCabe, Donald Moore (Kelly, nee Berrafato), Allison (Ryan) Lynch, Jack Moore (Sean Smith), Kelly (Justin) Gouty, Christine (Nick) Toth, Katherine (Connor) O’Leary, Daniel Nash, Nicholas Nash, and Delaney Nash. Nan never missed a birthday party, school play, concert, First Communion, Confirmation, graduation or significant event or game. Each grandchild was coddled, especially with her patented “Diddly Dee”. She built a legacy on love, laughter, and true friendship across the generations. Under her love and guidance, they became five educators, four in the medical field, three Social Workers, and six in the technical or business world. Not one ever had a need for bail money, but they knew they could have called Nan.

Also surviving are her 10 great-grandchildren: Hayden Van Niewaal, Lincoln and Jackson Kelley, Zachary Kelley-Koval, Nate Nash, Liam and Owen Moore, Lucy and Theodore Lynch, and Will Gouty. Zachary received Nan’s last Diddly Dee last month. Also surviving are a nearly countless number of nieces, nephews and cousins amongst the McHugh, Howe and Nash families.

The entire Nash Family is immensely grateful for the care, companionship, and the ability to gracefully lose at Yatzee, provided by Dory Cabrera. There is no doubt on Nan’s quick processing by St. Peter and she is already enjoying cups of tea and good craic with Bud and all her family. However, starting every April, she will be splitting her time with Ernie Banks and all her other Cubs heroes.

They will be enjoying their version of heaven: a team owned by the fans, the banishment of a rebuild, a 162-game winning streak, followed by a postseason sweep and the annual World Series victory.

Arrangements are being made by the Neptune Society. Memorial will be held on February 26th at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity (formerly St. Tarcissus), 6020 W. Ardmore Avenue, Chicago, IL. Visitation from 9:30 – 11:00. Memorial Mass at 11 a.m.
