October 26, 1940 - December 28, 2021 George Erven Douglas, age 81, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Chicago, Illinois passed away peacefully at 3:56pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 in FL. George grew up in Morgan Park on the south side of Chicago and after 1952 in Hinsdale, Illinois. After attending Dartmouth College, 1958-1962 and earning an AB in history, he continued his education in the
law, garnering the LLB degree from the University of Wisconsin and the LLM from John Marshall Graduate Law School. He began his career with the practice of law with Witner, Morgan & Burlage in Chicago and continued his career advancement with brief employments at Amalgamated Bank and Chicago Title & Trust. George spent the majority of his career working as a trust officer for the Continental Illinois National Bank, now Bank of America, retiring as a vice president and trust officer in 2000. George spent his summers at his condominium on North Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and his winters at his Fort Lauderdale cooperative apartment overlooking both the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. He greatly enjoyed bicycling and entertaining friends with his partner, and later spouse, of 41 years, Ray Wieder. George was an inveterate
traveler, usually with Ray, from hiking the Great Wall of China to admiring the golden opulence of the Russian czars in St. Petersburg to rounding the promontory of Cape Horn where the Atlantic and Pacific merge to touring the city of Marrakesh once the capital of southern Morocco: traveling to a total of over 60 countries. George was also a railroad enthusiast and a connoisseur of fine dining. George was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Douglas and Elizabeth Douglas (nee) Knupp and his younger brother, John. He is survived by Ray Wieder, his partner, and his nephew Andrew Douglas, and his niece Elizabeth Ann Douglas. He is being cremated and this summer will be buried alongside his parents and brother in a private ceremony at Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook, Illinois.
