Eckenrod, Eric James

-

Eric James Eckenrod, 53 of Wheaton, IL passed away on April 18th after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. He remained positive, loving, and hopeful up until the time of his passing. He handled his pain and suffering with dignity, never complaining, and always thanking those around him for their support. Eric was a lover of food (of all kinds), fishing and animals (particularly cats). He enjoyed the outdoors and remembered fondly his time spent in Carbondale, where he was able to spend time in his favorite place, the Shawnee Forest. He was an avid follower of both the Chicago White Sox and his SIU Saluki basketball and football teams. His love of animals translated into an adoption of a 24 toed tabby cat, Marmalade, whom Eric adored and who was his constant companion during his battle with cancer.

A kind and loving son and brother, Eric never failed to give both of his time and resources. To the outside world, Eric was a shy and private person. To family and friends, he was engaging and loving. He never failed to passionately share his views, feelings (or his many opinions) across a wide range of topics. Those close to him know him to be a generous and caring individual who would lend a hand whenever needed.

Eric is survived by a loving family including his parents, John and Ann Eckenrod, his sisters, Erin Eckenrod and Anne Campbell and his two nieces Lauren and Eloise Campbell.

Eric requested no memorial other than for those close to him to visit the Shawnee. His wish for everyone else was that more people would adopt

or contribute to organizations helping pets in need.
