Walsh, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen Walsh (nee Graham), age 86 of Lake Bluff passed away January 22, 2022.

A graduate of St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago, she met her future husband, John Thomas Walsh (Tom) while working at AC Nielsen company. They wed in 1954 and welcomed six children,

settling in Highland Park and later Lake Forest. The family later moved to Clearwater, Florida where Tom and Mary Ellen were instrumental in founding St. Brendan’s Catholic Church and Island Estates Yacht Club.

The couple decided to return to their roots in the late 1980s, building their home in Lake Bluff. They were married for 64 years, until his death in 2018. Mary Ellen is survived by her six children, Patricia Walsh Hummel (Larry), Susan Walsh Myers, Kathleen Walsh Araujo, John T. Walsh Jr., Ann Walsh Rubin (David), Mary E. Walsh-Steele; Grandchildren Thomas Hummel (Kelly), Catherine Hummel Linnenbrink (Jason), Matthew Hummel, Shannon Myers (Dan Zarzynski), Rachel Araujo-Newton (Sean), John Edward Araujo, Aaron Walsh Rubin, Benjamin Walsh Rubin, Grady William Steele, Bonnie Rose Steele, Faith Steele; Great-grandchildren John Hummel, Edward Hummel, Ava Linnenbrink and August Linnenbrink; and beloved nieces, nephews

and their families.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 29 at 10 am at St. Mary Church in Lake Forest, the service will be livestreamed by going to: https://www.facebook.com/watch/ChurchofStMaryLF/ . She was laid to rest at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in a private service.
