Ginger in a bottle

This Father’s Day try giving the gift of a new taste treat: ginger beer. While this drink is most noted for use in drinks such as the Dark and Stormy or a Moscow Mule, ginger beer by itself is a tasty thirst quencher without the alcohol and has the added benefit of ginger’s settling effect on digestion. Originally, ginger beer did contain alcohol, but today most commercial products are not alcoholic.

The beverage is less sweet than ginger ale, has more ginger taste and is more sparkling than carbonated.

A chilled 12-ounce botte of Trader Joe’s Ginger Beer is a popular choice, especially during the warm weather months. It’s made with ginger, lime, and lemon juices, sugar and ginger extract for a zingy but not overpowering flavor. And, dad also has the option of combining with alcohol to mix up a batch of specialty cocktails. $3.99 for a four-pack at Trader Joe’s.
