A blight on our lakefront

- — Sam Simmerman, Chicago

I frequently walk along the lakefront from North Avenue to Belmont Avenue, alternating between the trail next to the water and the walking path west of DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Since the arrival of nicer weather, growing piles of abandoned and uncollected rental bicycles and scooters have cast a shadow of blight on our beautiful lakefront and park.

Perhaps Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her administration could concentrate on eliminating this unsightly and easily fixable problem instead of spinning their wheels chasing projects like a NASCAR race in Grant Park or yet another billion-dollar rehabilitation of a physically and functionally obsolete Soldier Field.
