Youmans Jr., Charles Edwin
Charles Youmans died at home with his wife Susan at his side on July 24, 2022, after a long illness. A dedicated member of the Chicago theatre community for decades, including 30 years as house manager at Lyric Opera, Chuck was known for his capable management style—reflecting his degrees in drama and theatre management. He also served on the administrative team of the British American Drama Academy’s Midsummer at Oxford programs at Balliol College, Oxford. Chuck was loved for his winning smile and ability to hold listeners spellbound with his
repertoire of stories. While serving as house manager during the run of “Private Lives” at the Shubert Theatre, Richard Burton declared that Chuck was “the best front-of-house man I have ever worked with.” Charles is survived by his wife, Susan Kryl,
and legions of fans and friends.
