Seiler, Mary A.

-

Mary A. Seiler, nee Corcoran, late of Lake Forest, Illinois, passed away quietly of Alzheimer’s on the early morning of October 18, 2022 in the loving company of her husband of 71 years, Robert

S. Seiler, her three children, Marianne Seiler, Judith Seiler, Robert J. Seiler and her daughter-in-law Anita White

Seiler. Mary was just shy of her 97th birthday. Mary was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 21, 1925 to John and Della Corcoran, nee Burke, originally from Counties Galway and Mayo, Ireland respectively. Mary is also survived by her two grandchildren, Camille and Zachary Seiler and her loving sister, Teresa Evans. Mary is predeceased by her elder brothers, Marcus, Jim and Jack. And she was “Aunt Mary” to 40 nieces and nephews. Mary was known for her quick wit and sense of humor and the ease with which she made friends. She devoted herself to her family and friends. For a time, Mary was the “cookie lady”

of the neighborhood. Some of the young children would make their way via bicycle up our driveway,

knock on the door and when Mary answered said “Mrs. Seiler, you got cookies?” Of course, she did -- and off they would go, cookies in hand and mouth,

to come back another day. Those kids, grown into adults, when they would see Mary, they would still ask for cookies. Once our children “left the house” Mary became a daily communicant at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lake Forest. That daily attendance at mass was followed by a group attendance at the local supermarket for coffee and chatter. True to her form, she quickly came to be on a first-name basis with most of the supermarket employees. Mary was her husband’s partner in everything dealing with the social aspects of Bob’s work. She supported him in everything he wanted to do, including sailing, even though she did not know how to swim. (She learned at age 55). Mary, along with her husband, traveled extensively. This included a trip, at age 83, to Antarctica. Mary has been described as being “self-less” when it came to her children. Mary will be missed by many. Funeral and commitment services will be private. A memorial service will be held at a future date to be determined. ln lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) in Mary’s memory.
