Romantic Friction

Book-cover artist Lea pretends to be the elusive author of a hit romance novel that was secretly written by snobbish literary novelist Michael. She doesn’t expect to find love herself. Stars Julie Roy and Brandon Santana.

81st Golden Globe Awards CBS, 7 p.m. Live

The yearly presentati­on of the prestigiou­s film and television awards will air live tonight, with hit blockbuste­r flicks Barbie, Oppenheime­r and the latest Martin Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon garnering the most nomination­s. There is an expanded eligibilit­y for this year’s selection; each category will now have six nominees, increased from five, except for the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievemen­t category, which will name eight nominees. Also new to the Globes this year is the Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television award. In television, Succession leads the way, with nine nomination­s total.

Grimsburg FOX, 7 p.m. Sneak Preview

FOX airs a special preview of this animated comedy starring Jon Hamm as the voice of detective Marvin Flute, a master sleuth with eccentric opinions and a messy personal life that often interfere with his work. When he comes back to Grimsburg, a town with a lot of secrets, he tries his best to redeem himself with his estranged son and ex-wife. The voice cast also includes Rachel Dratch, Erinn Hayes, Kevin Michael Richardson and Alan Tudyk. Grimsburg makes its regular debut Feb. 18. A second season has already been ordered.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke

PBS, 7 p.m. Season Premiere

In the fourth season of this crime drama set in Victorian London, Eliza (Kate Phillips) has

taken over the business of Nash & Sons (not that he has any sons), and things are not going entirely smoothly, though help does come from some familiar sources. Outside of work, her relationsh­ip with William, aka the Duke (Stuart Martin), builds toward a looming decision that will shape both their lives. In tonight’s episode, Eliza and the Duke investigat­e a burglary in a high-end brothel whose clients include important members of the British government.

All Creatures Great and Small PBS, 8 p.m. Season Premiere

As this charming British drama based on James Herriot’s books returns for Season 4, it is Easter 1940, and Europe is at war. Without Tristan’s help while he is away serving, Skeldale House is busier than ever. James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) dream about the future, hoping that James won’t be called up to serve. Meanwhile, when Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley) takes a leap of faith, Siegfried (Samuel West) offers his support.

Extreme Airport Africa

Smithsonia­n Channel, 8 p.m. New Series

In the premiere episode, “Rhino Run,” a rookie pilot flies passengers for the first time, airport staff battle to prevent bird strikes, a helicopter carries a heavy load over Johannesbu­rg, and Africa’s most skilled helicopter pilots fly low to protect rhinos from poachers.

The Great North

FOX, 8:30 p.m. Season Premiere Season 4 of the animated comedy series continues the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family as single dad Beef (voice of Nick Offerman) does his best to keep his bunch of kids close. Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Aparna Nancherla and Dulce Sloan also star in the voice cast.

Funny Woman New Series

PBS, 9 p.m.

This six-part British drama based on the novel Funny Girl by Nick Hornby (High Fidelity, About a Boy) follows Barbara Parker (Gemma Arterton), a small-town beauty queen who decides to swap her pageant life for comedy television in 1960s London. After landing an audition for a groundbrea­king new sitcom, she discovers that being a woman in a male-dominated environmen­t has its own challenges. As Barbara “finds her funny” voice, she redefines the prevailing attitude toward funny women and, in the process, reinvents herself.
