Huskers finally end skid vs. Wildcats

Keisei Tominaga hit a deep 3-pointer with 25 seconds left to help Nebraska beat Northweste­rn for the first time since 2019, defeating the Wildcats 75-69 on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.

The Cornhusker­s had lost seven straight to the Wildcats and trail in the all-time series 13-10.

Nebraska held a 65-54 lead, with under 10 minutes left, but Brooks Barnhizer fueled a Northweste­rn comeback to tie the game at 65 on a Ryan Langborg free throw with 3 minutes, 57 seconds left.

C.J. Wilcher scored at the basket to put Nebraska back in front, and Tominaga made a layup, then hit a pair of free throws for a 71-65 lead. Barnhizer powered inside for a layup and Boo Buie hit two free throws with 49 seconds left to get the Wildcats within 71-69, but Tominaga’s 3 iced the win.

Nebraska committed 18 turnovers, with the Wildcats turning them into 17 points and fueling the late comeback.

Josiah Allick led Nebraska (14-5, 4-4 Big Ten) with 15 points, with Tominaga adding 14 and six rebounds. Brice Williams scored 12 points and Jamarques Lawrence and Wilcher 10 each.

Barnhizer scored six first-half points and finished with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead Northweste­rn (13-5, 4-3). Langborg added 15 points with four steals.

Loyola 65, Fordham 61: Des Watson scored 19 points on 6-of10 shooting for the Ramblers (13-6, 5-1 Atlantic 10) in New York. Dame Adelekun scored 17 points and Jayden Dawson 13.

Elijah Gray led the Rams (8-10, 2-3) with 15 points. Jahmere Tripp and Will Richardson added 11 points each.

Butler 74, DePaul 60: Led by Pierre Brooks’ 20 points, the Bulldogs (12-7, 3-5 Big East) handed the visiting Blue Demons their sixth straight defeat. DJ Davis scored 17 points and added five steals for Butler, and Posh Alexander finished with 17 points, six assists and six steals.

Jalen Terry led DePaul (3-15, 0-7) with 15 points, Elijah Fisher added 13 points and three steals, and K.T. Raimey put up 12 points and two blocks.
